Easter Sunday in Montana

The Sun is shining and the sky is blue, this Easter Morning in Montana. We’ve had some wild weather of late, and the temps are still below normal.. The Bitterroot Valley, though is one of those lovely places on the planet where all bets are off, when it comes to the Weather Forecasts. Yesterday, it warmed considerably over the predicted highs. And, today looks to do the same. Some high puffy clouds can be seen above our snow-capped mountains. Down in the Valley floor where the B&B sits, the grasses are greening up nicely, and the wild violets are making their appearance. Soon, very soon, the Morels will pop out of the ground and it will be time to hunt for wild mushrooms. Can’t wait!

Giving Thanks in Montana

November in the Bitterroot has been an extreme mix of weather! The beginning of the month was amazingly warm for November in the Rocky Mountains of Montana. We enjoyed lovely color and the Petunias continued to bloom! A really big wind storm complete with toppling trees and branches. Then came the frosty nights, and now.. snow, snow, snow! At this moment there is over 9″ of the white stuff… coating the fence posts and even the tree trunks. It is so gorgeous it hurts to look at it! Thanksgiving Day will see 8 for dinner. Lots of fun, laughter, philosophical conversation and great food! Not to mention the wine will flow..
A full house for 2 nights, (all that flowing wine, must keep everyone safe from the snowy roads).. Then customers on Sat. night. All this is a reminder.. it’s a time to BE Thankful.. Blessings to you all!

September’s End

Here it is the 29th of September. How DID that happen? Time has flown this year, no doubt about it!

Here in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana we are enjoying spectacular weather. No hard killing frost, as yet. Not quite a record, but unusual all the same. The flowers are enjoying 80 degree daytime temps.. The nights are still in the upper 40′s. We had quite a bit a rain at the end of Aug. and beginning of Sept., so the trees and grounds have set themselves up for a glorious display of Autumn colors. Golds, and Bronzes, Yellows and Oranges are taking over the tree tops and shrubbery. In the High Country, the Larch is beginning it’s annual display of coppery needles. This is a marvelous time to walk the Lee Metcalf or Teller Wildlife Refuges. Both are equidistant from my little Bed and Breakfast. About 15 mins. of driving time will have you out of the car and strolling along the Bitterroot River. The Apple Days annual harvest festival is next week, in Hamilton. Anything Apple will delight your palate. From pies to cider. Why not come join the fun?

Blue Sky Montana Day

This morning has dawned cool and clear. Fabulous blue skies with big puffy white clouds! We’ve had a lot of rain, recently so the grass is greener and the flowers are more stunning. The forecast is for warming temps., and back to our seasonal highs. That means daytime temps near 90 and the nights cool into the 50′s.. Perfect!

Mid-August in the Bitterroot Valley

Amazingly the summer is flying by! How it can possibly be nearing mid-August is one of those mysteries of time. I find ‘time’ to be a fascinating subject, hence the Clock collection. LOL

Currently at the B&B work continues apace on the Cabin Bath project.. It is nearing completion.. HURRAY.. The weather has continued cooler with fabulous Thunder storms to wash the air. I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful the air smells after one of these rains! It seems to perk up the pine needles, perhaps by pummeling them with rain! The flowers take remarkably well to the heavy downpours, recovering magnificently, as well! Well, off to paint some walls!

It’s August in Montana!

Aug. 1st has dawned sunny and warm, here in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. We’ve been having a series of Thunder Storms this past week.. As keeping Ihe grounds watered is a big chore, I am grateful for any help from Mother Nature that I can get! LOL We have been blessed to date, with a mild summer.. Not TOO hot, so far. Low snowfall this past winter was alleviated by a cool wet, May and June. July warmed into the 90′s, so the the latest rain is welcomed. The marvelous thing about our summer Thunder Storms is that they seldom last long. Mostly gone within an hour. Leaving the flowers perky and happy. The rain is always magical. Plan a trip to Montana you will be pleased you did!

Wild and Wooly Spring Weather

Cinco de Mayo dawned clear and bright.. But cold. We’ve had significant moisture this past week.. No one is really complaining though.. Anything we add to the snow pack will be welcomed this summer! The forecast is for more light snow tonight. When the sun is shining and the wind is calm, it’s really quite pleasant to be outdoors. The new Cabin project is moving along and it should be ready in June! Hurray! I can’t wait to post the new pictures. Though, I am itching to work in the flower beds, it just isn’t quite time. I did manage to prune the roses and they are leafing out like mad. They don’t mind the cooler weather, it seems. There are even some crazy perennials blooming! Make your plans for a summer excursion to the Bitterroot Valley, we have the most loveely summer weather you can imagine… come and check us out!

Spent this lovely and sunny Spring morning going over all the changes to the website. Unfortunately, it will still be a couple of weeks to get the newest photos uploaded to the site.. Still.. making progress! And, that’s a good thing. Yesterday was the day that you could really ‘feel’ that the new season had begun. We’ve been having wild and wooly weather.. Just as in the ‘April’ of poets. In like a lion out like a lamb! It’s supposed to be nearly 70 on the weekend. Gorgeous blue skies with snow capped mountains. What could be better?
