Linda’s Update

by your Innkeeper, Linda

Quilter’s was not that presentation by Pam Mostek inspiring? Wow, I’m going out and buy fabric with large prints and do something. As an individual that does mostly applique I deal mostly in small prints, so this was an eye opener for me – I would see the larger prints, but never know how to use them…but now I do! So, if you missed Pam, and you’ve wondered about using large prints, next time we meet, ask me about it.

The Bitterroot Quilt Guild will be hosting Jim Carroll April 22. Jim and his wife Kate, have been dealers of antique American quilts and textiles for more than thirty years. Recently the Carroll’s, Hockaday Museum of Art and the Museum at Central School in Kalispell teamed up to present a collection of antique quilts. This traveling exhibit consists of 16 quilts an coverlets, each with a very human story to tell. The exhibition was designed to welcome questions from viewers – and to inspire new quilters to try their hand at this “rewarding and fun ancient craft form.” The Carroll’s have a great antique shop in Anaconda MT. It’s worth a trip over there to see it, so when visiting Hamilton and staying at Big Sky B & B, this would be a nice side trip.

Well, Hamilton had had one spring day, last week, and now we’re back to winter for another week, needless to say, I’m ready for spring. This weather does allow for working on quilts, this activity is not a summer sport. I’m getting ready for the Bitterroot Quilt Guild Show in June- I made an item for the Show’s Challenge – not great, but it’s my own idea – we need this type of project to get us out of our comfortable place.

I finished a “Turning Twenty” quilt and it’s being quilted, so the binding and then it’s ready for the bed! Here in the Valley we’re lucky to have a fantastic long arm quilter, Patricia Pressler, her skill level and creative approach makes my quilts!

My Cliff’s Bear, a Boulder Creek Design, is now hanging on the wall – again Patricia did wonders on this – wait til you see it.

I continue to work on the “Primitive Garden” by Lisa Bonegean – this is a 14 block, hand applique, 70 x 82″, life long project – you should go on the web (www.primitivegatherings.us) and check it out, awesome, as all of Lisa’s designs are. Let me know what you think of the Primitve Garden, I’m just finishing the applique work on block #9 – then I will need to go back and do the embroidery work.

Well, I need to get started.
